One of the most rewarding aspects of learning how to play guitar is finally mastering the art of learning to play a song by ear alone – without having someone teach you how to play, or reading a tab from the internet. Being able to figure a song out by ear means you can listen to your favorite song, and within just a few minutes you’ll be able to learn how to play it. Sound good? One of the keys to learning this ability is learn to understand common chord progressions. While most songs sound different to each other, there often have underlying patterns (chord progressions) which make figuring things out by ear much easier.
