The Wine Industry pledges to become greener

The wine industry has pledged to try and become more environmentally friendly by reducing the weight of it’s bottles.  Many major wine retailers from different countries have agreed to try and cut down the weight of their bottles, in turn reducing the thousands of kilos of waste that comes from packaging.

It is a sensible move from the industry, both in an economic and environmental sense, producing lightweight bottles will generally mean a cut in the amount each company will have to spend on buying bottles, as less glass will provide more bottles.  It may also create good publicity for the companies involved in the pledge as consumers will have an extra reason to purchase from them as opposed to competitors.
