There is a unique sand shot that some would consider a little known secret amongst professional golfers, but this free golf tip could put you alongside the pros.
Several years ago, during the British Open, Phil Rogers took a bunker shot that I had never seen before. The ball was sitting in the sand very close to the back bank of the bunker, which was so steep that it was impossible to draw the club back in the normal fashion.
Getting out of a similar situation could be very hard and have you attempting the shot hundreds of times without any success - unless of course you know the secret. So, here’s how to do it:
1. Simply take up your normal stance for a trap-shot.
2. Next, take the club straight up by lifting your arms in the same way that you would if you were picking up an axe to chop a piece of wood.
3. Finally, hit down about 2 inches high on the ball using an excessively strong right-handed action.
The arc of this particular bunker shot is straight up and down, rather than back and forth, and there is no follow-through, which would simply leave the club head buried in the sand. It sounds rather odd I know, but it is very successful.
