Blocking Spam Mail

A couple years ago I heard that Microsoft and Google were going to team up and generate a fool proof algorithm and system to fight spam. I’m not sure if they ever got to work on it but it actually sounded plausible. The problem was that to Block spam e-mails this way would have required alot of money and system upgrades and even a change in how people receive and read email. This may still happen but until it does you need a way to block that annoying unsolicited email right? Most email programs have spam blocker software, actually I believe they all do in one form or another.
